CBFF Brings "Must See" Film, Patti Cake$, to Crested Butte

We all have our biases, which goes a long way to explaining our world. Here's one of mine: as a White, middle-aged dude who's lived in Colorado nearly all his life, rap music doesn't exactly do it for me. Give me The Dead, Steely Dan, U2, Counting Crows, Dylan or Pearl Jam and I'm good. But rap music? No thank you. (Although Michael Franti and Spearhead go a long way for me, I don't think anyone would dare call that rap).

So, at last year's Sundance Film Festival, the film that everyone was talking about was Geremy Jasper's Patti Cake$. And wouldn't you know it, it was about rap music and a White woman from Jersey who was trying to bring her beats to life.

The ride over the Rockies had been a bit bumpy, but it did not diminish my excitement to be in the craggy nucleus of Colorado for the Crested Butte Film Festival. Surrounded by mountains that push up through the ground like gargantuan knuckles dusted in green and gold, Crested Butte is a quiet mining town turn ski haven that has been secretly brewing up one of the best small film festivals in the United States.

Local Takes Initiative to Ban Plastic Bags in Crested Butte

Benjamin Swift is a Crested Butte local emerging filmmaker whose film, Crested Butte Nordic Hits The Streets, was a success at the 2015 Crested Butte Film Festival Mountain Kids Film program. In between Nordic ski racing and finishing high school, Swift is a passionate environmental steward turned activist with his relatively new project, Plastic Bag Free CB, a movement to eliminate non-reusable plastic bags within Crested Butte and throughout Gunnison County.

Crested Butte Film Festival presents the award-winning film, THE WOLFPACK

There you are minding your own business - walking down First Avenue in New York City when you happen upon a sight straight out of Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs... six look-alike boys, all dressed in Ray-Bans, black suits with white shirts, and skinny black ties.

Crested Butte Film Festival is excited to present THE WOLFPACK as our first film of 2016, Thursday night, January 21, 7pm, at the Crested Butte Center for the Arts.
