Behind The Scenes
Friday, September 30 | 10 Am - 11 Am | Various Locations | Everyone Is Welcome, Free Event
New this year! Crested Butte Film Festival seeks to create a richer, more informed appreciation of film and the filmmaking process. With that, we bring you Behind The Scenes - a series of Friday morning talks by industry professionals. For students, filmmakers and film lovers.
A Producer’s Life | 10 AM | Center for the Arts, 606 6th St.
Featuring Crested Butte native and film producer, Sara Murphy. Sara began her film career working with Philip Seymour Hoffman and his film production company, Cooper’s Town Productions. Having now produced a half dozen independent films she went on to win the prestigious Sundance Producers Award this past year. She will talk with festival co-founder Michael Brody about growing up in Crested Butte and returning with two of her most recent films, Morris From America and Hunter Gatherer.
Film Scoring – How Music Enhances Storytelling | 10 AM | Majestic Theatre #1, 507 Red Lady Ave.
Join Ian McLeod, Founder/Producer of Cleod9 Music, as he talks about working with filmmakers to create a musical soundtrack for their films. Ian will discuss creative ways to find a music source, navigate the world of music libraries and speak the language of custom composers. Learn how to use music as a vessel to elevate your story and evoke emotion from your audience. Cleod9 has created music for commercials, films and documentaries, including Martin’s Boat, a Pete McBride film featured in this years’ festival (“The Hero With 1000 Faces” program).
Crafting Emotions In Your Story | 10 AM | Majestic Theatre #2, 507 Red Lady Ave.
Presented by best-selling author, Anne Eliot. Filmmakers, scriptwriters, authors, and film editors share the same goals: Tell the unforgettable tale. Sell the unforgettable tale. Make the audience laugh, cry, think, and fall in love. How do we do this? Emotion. Emotion. Emotion, then maybe some plot. Anne guides you through an often misunderstood and misplaced topic on where, how, and why emotion should fit within a story. Great for documentary filmmakers as well.
Script Reading | 10 AM | Mallardi Cabaret, 403 2nd St.
Holly Merritt presents a reading of her feature-length script, After You Left. Holly first came to Crested Butte Film Festival in 2013 with her short film, Kate. She now returns to do a CBFF first-ever script reading of her new script read by Crested Butte actors and produced by Harry Woods of the Crested Butte Mountain Theater. Come hear how a story sounds before it reaches the set, a one-of-a-kind festival experience.
