Director Bios

Kostadin Bonev

Kostadin Bonev has been awarded  numerous national and international prizes. Four times awarded with the Prize for the Best film at the awards of Bulgarian Film Academy. His first feature, Warming up yesterday's lunch, is a Bulgarian Oscar entry.

Fyzal Boulifa

Born in 1985, Fyzal Boulifa is a writer-director based between Tangier and London. He has completed several short films including Whore (2009), winner of Grand Prix du Jury Angers Premiers Plans 2010 and screening in over twenty international festivals, and The Curse (2012), winner of The Illy Prize at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight 2012, BAFTA-nominated and selected for over fifty international film festivals including Sundance. Rate Me (2015) has won the Illy Prize at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight and has been selected for over seventy festivals.

Ascension was made by five student directors at Supinfocom Arles (now MOPA) as their graduation project. They are now all working in industry, or teaching at various schools.

Lindsay Branham & Jon Kasbe

Award-winning filmmaker Lindsay Branham is the co-founder of DTJ, an organization that creates localized media to protect children in war. Focusing specifically on children in armed conflict in Central Africa, Branham has helped raise awareness about the sectarian conflict in the Central African Republic and the violence perpetrated by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). She is a USC school of journalism graduate and lives in Brooklyn, NY.

Jon Kasbe is an Emmy award-winning filmmaker. He has enjoyed the privilege of traveling the world and contributing to numerous award-winning projects alongside PBS Digital Studios, MediaStorm, and Powering a Nation. His most recent works have been recognized by the Webbys, SXSW, DOC NYC, and Pictures of the Year International. Jon quickly realized the power of the camera and a listening ear. The backstage pass into people, situations, and rare moments proved worthwhile. Sharing those images with the world created meaning. Jon graduated at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and lives in Brooklyn, NY.
