Juried Awards

From all the entries submitted during the call for entries, our official screening committee jury independently inspects each entry and rates them based on their respective judging criteria.  The entries that rate the highest in their subjective areas through this process are included on category specific shortlists and further evaluated by the executive members of the official jury, and then forwarded to the shortlist for ballot voting by the festival grand jury. Individual category awards, along with the Crested Butte Film Festival’s most prestigious top award are presented each year to the best overall film as selected by our grand jury.

Audience Awards

A sure measure of success for filmmakers is winning Crested Butte Film Festival’s coveted Audience Choice Award. Solely determined by our audience, the Audience Awards are open to any screened entry and are determined by a weighted, tabulated-ratings ballot system in conjunction with online trending and audience street reviews.

ACTNowAction & Change Together

Our social action award - this is a cash award that goes to a nonprofit organization linked to a documentary film. If your film has a call-to-action component to it, and it is designated as an ACTNow Film by the Crested Butte Film Festival (five documentary films are nominated each year) it will be considered for this award.

BALLOTS & VOTING

After each film or shorts program, upon leaving the screening, audiences will vote by simply tearing through a numbered ballot (1-5) marking their vote (no pen needed!). Volunteers hand out and collect ballots and all ballots are then tabulated and calculated based on the percentage of viewers.
